VIDEO

I self-produced this vignette which ran on CNNI TV and on the CNNI homepage as part of the Innovate Ireland series. I did everything from pitching, conducting the research calls, hiring and fully briefing a local team, before writing and producing the segment with an editor. This experience would be used again and again at CNNI, when pitching stories, creating other shoot briefs and writing scripts; it was a valuable step.
self-edited video: action
This video featured as part of our Africa Avant-Garde series on CNN. It featured a Ghanaian choreographer, and required me to source and sync up a mutli-cam interview, selecting the best UPSOT before creating a dance sequence and sourcing Broll & NATSOUND. It allowed me to experiment with cuts between cams and push-ins on interviews, as well as syncing different angles to create interesting cuts and sequences.
TV VIGNETTE: COLOUR
It was rightfully the stunning Wat Po Monastery in Bangkok which was to be the star of this video I self-edited. Picking the strongest Broll and NATSOT from the monastery was important, as well as making use of the deputy Abbott, who gave Richard Quest a lesson in meditation. This was an opportunity to show a different, more tranquil side to the show 'Quest's World of Wonder'.
'QWOW' TV VIGNETTE: ACTIVE SEQ.
This interview with Chef Pom, a renowned chef and restaraunteur in Thailand, required a my understanding of strong NATSOUND and cooking / food sequences, while still picking up on good UPSOT from Richard Quest's sit-down interview. I was envious I didn't get to eat the food when it was finished!
TV VIGNETTE: INTV HEAVY
Cutting down this interview - a whole block in the finished show - to 50 secs of vignette was a pleasant challenge. I began selecting the best footage and soundbites from our rushes, as well as the best UPSOT from Woody, the guest, and interaction between him and our talent, Richard Quest. This scene was a pleasure to put together, as Thai TV personality Woody Milintachinda talks to Richard about Thai culture as they cruise down the Chao Phraya River.
AFRICA AVANT-GARDE VIGNETTE
Here you can see my process of further condensing the launchpad video above - focusing on the strongest dance footage and still trying to capture Nii-Tetey's essence as an interviewee. I was able to use music throughout here instead of fading it out for NATSOUND, which gives a more high tempo vibe to the piece.

NIGHT SHELTER TV FEATURE
This largely self-shot TV package was one of the first packages I put together at CJS. It featured a night shelter for the homeless running out of St German's Church in Adamsdown, which I picked up on in my East Cardiff 'patch'

Shot on Sony NX5 and mobile.
SMACKING BAN
TV PACKAGE
My first news package as a reporter completed on a (very cold) production day in January. It features interviews with prominent AMs (now 'SMs') from the Welsh Parliament and ran as the lead story on CJS News that day.

Shot on NX5 with camera operator.

SELF-SHOT TV FEATURE
I self-shot a TV package on Hongkongers who were considering leaving their home city for the UK for my final project at CJS. I used self-confidential interviews - in person and on Zoom - my own material and library footage to tell this story visually during a pandemic.
For the purposes of confidentiality, this project is available only by explicit request.
